SIAD/Launch Event &
Party 28th
February 2004 Report
Following
a frantic Friday, which saw Limehouse Town Hall transformed into the
perfect venue to host the launch of the Equilibrium project, the morning
of Saturday 28th February had a sense of anticipated excitement about it.
With an early start from the Committee, the launch soon got underway with
the arrival of various representatives from organizations hosting stalls
as part of self-injury awareness day. With the stalls set up and the doors
open, the public soon seeped through the doors of the Town Hall. The day
was a great success, with fantastic workshops from the St Johns Ambulance
and LifeSIGNS forcing a horde of spectators onto the small balcony! The
live web debate ran smoothly, with a good number of topics discussed after
all had been replenished by the superb array of food! The guest book
filled up and many who had come in out of curiosity left with leaflets and
words of support for Equilibrium. The project has officially begun.
The
Event
The day
was widely considered to be a massive success by all those involved. As
well as the large number of people who attended the event, the Equilibrium
website also attracted well over half a million hits, many of which
watched the going's on live through our EQCAM. One
of the many outcomes from the event was that a large number of the
organisations involved, have decided to share information and discuss
possibly working together in the near future. Many of whom met face to
face for the first time.
The
Party
With only
a couple of hours to prepare for the evening, the hall was cleared and re
set to create the perfect party vibe. The bar was brought in, the PA
rigged up and the lights turned down. With flyers all round the streets
that afternoon, the party was a certain winner. The doors opened for the
second time that day, and a people flocked in of all ages and backgrounds
to show support for Equilibrium and its aims. The evening was as
successful as the day event, Living
With Eating Disorders and Tonic put in amazing performances while the DJs
blended some of the
finest tracks this side of LA.
The
launch of Equilibrium was exactly as it should have been; a fun and well
supported event to announce the beginning of this groundbreaking project.
A big
thankyou to all those involved and to you for supporting us make a
positive change in society.
